Diet and fitness trends are so confusing. There’s so much conflicting information on every single topic.
It seems that every three months there is a new revolutionary breakthrough that is sure to be the IT diet.
The one solution that will make you healthier, prettier, and give you the body that you’ve always dreamed of having. One week the media is telling you to eat low fat, then they are telling you to eat high fat. Which is it? A healthy weight loss plan is a plan that is sustainable. If you can’s stick to it, then, of course, you can’t be successful.

The reality of losing weight is that it isn’t easy. There are several things that you might already know about dieting. Dieting in the traditional sense means to reduce your caloric intake. I think that is what most of us try to do when we need to lose some weight.
Most of us have been on at least one diet throughout our lifetime. If you have been on a diet, you also know that you almost always gain back the weight that you lost and sometimes gain back even more weight. Have you been on the yo-yo diet train?

If that logic seems problematic, here is the reason why? Calories do not determine how lean you are. Insulin determines how lean you are. Yep, that’s right. Finding a healthy weight is entirely determined by your hormones.
How frustrating is that? The thing is, we can control a lot of things. Like how much we eat and the types of food we eat. We can control how much time we spend exercising. But we cannot always control how our bodies respond. Sometimes we do all the right things, and we still cannot make the scale budge in the right direction.
I work with my clients to help them figure out how to get their hormones back on track so that their metabolism can run the way it was designed to run. I use intermittent fasting as one tool in that toolbox. I believe there is not one perfect diet or one ideal solution for everyone. However, some tools can be extremely powerful when used the right way.

Fasting is a great way to give yourself a little more room in your diet, especially around the holidays. The secret sauce of fasting is that when you are in a fasted state your insulin is low. When your insulin is low you start to burn fat. The longer you maintain a low insulin state the more fat you burn. Easy right?
Intermittent fasting is alternating between a fasted state and a fed state.
The idea is to spend a longer amount of time in a fasted state than you are spending now. This looks different for everyone. For some of my clients, this means simply skipping breakfast and lunch a few times per week. For others, it means skipping a whole day of eating a few times a week. Some clients may be comfortable with doing a longer-term fast. I have experimented with fasting myself and done up to a 10-day water fast. Yes, this means drinking ONLY Water for ten days. Guess what? I didn’t starve to death, and I actually felt pretty energetic after my body adjusted and started getting to the business of burning fat.
