The first favorite that I will review for you is my absolute favorite haircare line | Hairstory
I’ve been jonesing to do a product review for Hairstory. So here it is. This is my honest review of the hair care line that I use. This post does contain affiliate links so if you click on them to order I may earn a small amount of revenue. I only work with brands that I truly believe in. This product has changed my relationship with my hair and I wanted to share it with you.
A little known fun fact about me. I’m a licensed Cosmetologist. This review is not entirely void of expert opinion.

About my hair. I have really fine hair. I have a decent amount of hair, but the texture is completely lifeless. My hair is the kind of hair that if you curl it, the curls might stay curled for like five minutes and then looks flat and dull again.
A few years ago a friend recommended Hairstory shampoo, New Wash. New Wash is a non-lathering cream shampoo. I had tried similar brands such as Wen and the Matrix version. I did like that this type of shampoo left my hair feel less stripped. I was worried that a non-lathering shampoo would weigh my hair down.
My first experience with New Wash.
The cream shampoo has a great texture and is easy to distribute into your hair. When you rinse it out, it feels as if you’re rinsing a conditioner out of your hair.
My hair felt overall much denser. With traditional shampoo, I would get that squeaky clean feeling in my hair but, my hair was limp and fly away. New Wash makes my hair feel like it has real structure. I love that! I need all the texture that I can get.
The other cool thing about New Wash is that when you continue to use it, your hair feels better and better. Because my hair is now about 75% grey, I occasionally wash my hair with a blue toning shampoo (OR sometimes I throw in a super bright semi-permanent color like pulp riot or So Color’s Cult line-up). Whenever I do, I am always sad because it takes a few washes with New Wash to get my hair back to the solid textured feel that New Wash gives my hair.
The styling product line up
The first two styling products that I tried were Dressed Up and Undressed. Dressed up is a creamy product that is applied to when hair before blow drying. It protects the hair from heat damage and gives your hair a smooth bulky feeling when you blow dry. It
I found that it gave my hair overall more hold than other styling products I’ve used in the past. The one caveat is that you do have to get used to the styling products. It takes a little experimenting to find how much product is the right amount of product for your particular hair type.
Undressed is a spray-in product that you apply to wet hair. I use it when I am just going to let my hair air dry and want it to have that beachy texture. I also use it to refresh my hair. In the morning I will spray it at the root and then dampen my hair by misting it through the ends. Then I will hit it with a blow dryer and round brush just to smooth it out a little.
I have since discovered Hair Balm which is a leave-in cream that you can use to add texture when you don’t want to blow dry your hair. I have even added this to my hair dry to smooth my ends. It gives your hair a beefed up texture with zero fuss. You can add it to your hair every morning, and each day your hair feels a little thicker.
I can’t leave without talking about another one of their new products –Lift. I ordered Lift for the first time when I placed my last order. Lift is a texture spray that you can use when you blow dry. It is a maximum volume enhancer and holds the curl like nobody’s business. It’s a dream product. At least for girls like me with super fine hair.
Lift give your hair a gritty texture that you may or may not love. I like my hair to feel a little gritty and thick. I even turned my mom on to these products. Her hair is extra fine. And she has very little hair. Last time she was visiting I gave her a trim and used Dressed up and Lift in hair. She loved it. Her hair felt thicker, and the style held up really well.
The other thing that I love about Hairstory is that they give back to a water related cause. So at least a portion of my dollars spent here are going to help save water resources. They not only give back but hold a vote to let consumers decide where the money will go.
